I am new to pyrotechnics and have found it very difficult to find the right chemicals for making black powder in garden centres. I have found them at gardens direct.com but I'm worried about getting in trouble if I order them over the Internet.

So basically I have two questions.

1. Where can I get potassium nitrate and sulphur in actual garden centres?
2. Will i get in trouble by the police for ordering online ie they're monitering people buying these chemicals?

just remember, its not against the law to buy them.....

in my opinion, there will be a "big brother" somewhere watching who buys what.

But in all fairness they are not all that interested in joe bloggs buying some potassium nitrate from gardensdirect.com....theyre interested in the guy buying half a ton of AN.

just remember to be sensible, store everything properly. Dont make yourself a target by setting of rockets and what not in your back garden, and don't tell every tom dick and harry in the pub that you make blackpowder in your shed.

I don't honestly think that there would be people montioring that sort of activity. Perhaps, somewhere, someone in "the company" has access to that sort of infromation, but your average police special branch would have to request it, or have it reported to them. GD are probably (It's not run by a troop of chimps) well aware that people buying from them may be doing so for pyro, so I wouldn't worry if you're just buying for hobby purposes.
I always think that if someone has the resources, time and motivation to gather that sort of information on me without a warranty etc, then they could probably discover most things about me (ie buying locally), so it's kinda futile in the long run. I like to think they don't, but who knows!

I have no doubt that we are closely observed...

However, what we are trying to do as an organisation is to prove to the authorities that what we are doing is safe and reasonable.

Hopefully we may be able to influence the interpretation of the law and obtain exemptions and clear guidelines. Once this happens, supply and possession of chemicals will be a simpler matter.

To have any real effect though, we need lots more active, accountable, paying members (not just people who use the forum) which will make a us a force to be taken seriously.
