Ive never been a big rocket fan, had a grand total of 3 in my display this year and with the odd exception pretty much every rocket have had has been quite a let down.

What are peoples opinion of the best rocket available in the U.K to the general public regardless of price?

In my oppinion rockets that have a shell head are the best, they have the best breaks and seem to have the most powder content in them, tnt do good rockets the 3" shell heads are best.

I only buy rockets with shell heads:)

I'm not a big rocket fan either. I think some of the lower cost packs can be good value, though- some nice bursts and volume- flashpowder rockets are definatly better than blackpowder ones.

There is a highly regarded rocketed called the King, but personally I don't use them.

sadly as far as im aware those rockets are no longer made so once stocks are used up thats that for them , The King rocket David mentions isnt bad at all and has sold very well in its short history but again they are not being made anymore so once stocks are gone there gone , Epics Sky Thriller isnt a bad rocket has a huge burst in it and a good bang as well , Kimboltons old version Amber Glows are damn good as well but again stocks are short on those

i used Kings and Thrillers and Amber glows in my finale this year and everyone was blown away by it

its not uncommon to find the smaller rockets give much better value for money though and also have impressive breaks in them however most of the "good" break rockets (at the moment) are now 1.3G which limits thier availability

Has anyone tried a "rocket pod?" I had a 7 shot one from Fireworks International- they are great fun- sort of like a barrage that fires rockets rather than bombettes.

Still haven't tried Sky Thriller or King, hoping to get Sky Thriller next year.

Epic's Supreme Rockets are excellent and I had an awesome pack of Dancing Red Devil Rockets a few years ago for New Years Eve, total sky fillers they were.

Probably not available now (at least in their original form), but the 4oz Zink rockets sold by Kimbolton were brilliant (when they were still made in Germany). I would cite them as the best rockets ever available to the public. Dear but brilliant.

Blue with silver spinners was probably my favourite of all.

Sounds like most the decent rockets are no longer available!

I think a few years back when I decided to do my first big display I ended up with something daft like 40 rockets and quite literally got bored of firing them on the night, after that have never bothered too much with them. Did get a couple of King rockets this year which where the finale and fairly impressive way to end.

Was thinking of building a few more rockets into next years display especially if they can be fired with the launch Kontrol system so can fire a few at once.

Could not agree more,
when i launched my first succesfull 1lb rocket i was blown away by the speed it took of and the height it reached,next on the list is to add a 2.5 inch ball shell,.

Moral of the story being ditch buying fireworks stick to your homemade ones better value and much better and satisfying than bought.

One of reasons why said best consumer rocket as I wouldnt know where to start making one, well other than a wooden stick lol

I had some nice 3" ball head rockets from a local 12 month retailer in Loughton (Essex/London border) they were labelled TNT. They have a lovely big full round break but obviously have a lot of flash inside. If you look they are still available from places with 12 month licences as they became 1.3 so are more difficult to courier these days. The ones in 1.3 store are OK and can be sold but not sent, so if you go and get them it's OK. The shop in Hornchurch had some too and had deliberately bought more when the 1.3 reclassification was imminent -again they can store them and sell them but not sent them by courier.

Certainly "Fireworks Crazy" has a section on their website for "collection only fireworks" meaning things they cannot send by courier.

yeah, i got some of these too.....TNT do a 1" 2" and 3" "display" rocket.......with various effects, i got 5 of the 3 inch headers this year.....and was very impressed....

whilst on the subject....did anyone notice the driver on these rockets.......specifically the casing, and what it was made off.........all 5 of mine had metal casings for the rocket !
