You will have to wait until the new site is running, and you will also have to pass an exam to become a member.

The exam only affects those who wish to join the BPS and are not already members, so it won't apply to you. I have already mentioned this on the forum before IIRC.

The exam basically tests competancy in the subject.

I'm a bit concerned that a test will exclude people who need the board most - those with lots to learn...

Phil, I'm afraid you've missed the point. I would rather have a site full of competant members who have an appreciable understanding of pyrotechnics. The test isn't impossible by any stretch of the imagination, and those who are serious about the hobby will have no problem in doing the research required.

I'm getting a bit fed up of the same old tiresome questions being asked, where do you buy KN03, can you make smokes with food colouring etc.

maybe you should make a section called Richie's Quick Tips and put down your trade secrets; like how to make bp that makes commercial stuff suitable for fire extinguishing in comparison

This what I dont get. Not only do people ask where you buy it from, if they were to search the forum, they would find god knows how many refrences to GD. So theres two reasons to get annoyed:

1.Always being asked where KNO3 can be bought
2.Not searching the forum for posts on KNO3

We dont want to sound elitist, but this site and forum are for people who are enthusiastic about pyro and have reasonable knowledge for that purpose. It isnt a rookie academy. I admit that we have educated a number of people and they are now better and safer pyros, but it is unnessecary and a lot of hassle to answer every newbies plea/'demand' for KNO3 and the likes. If applicants do seriously want to be part of the 'community' then they must be clued up, and if that means doing the required and sincere research to pass the 'test' then they will be welcomed.
