Hi, Gang!
Please be patient if I mess this up, as I am trying for the first time to use this forum...
Having browsed it for a few weeks, it seems like you're a good bunch of folks intersted in helping each other get on with the safe use of GOOD PYRO'S!
With this in mind, I'm off down to Stafford on the 22nd of Feb to hopefuly get my CAT4 training certificate.
If all goes well, I will be looking to join a pyro team ASAP. (at ANY level).
I have spent the last 4 years or so doing 10 to 25 mins of fireworks set to music, but only for our own family get-to-gethers, and obviously, only using CAT3. and all hand-fired.
I am looking to move on from this into more organised displays and events, if any-one has any ideas, please let me know.
Best Regards, Roy.

Hi Roy

In my opinion your best course of action is to contact a number of local (ish) professional display companies and get some experience in crewing for displays, training courses are a good start but there is no substitution for experience.

Different companies have differing methods of working, try to get work with a number of companies to begin with, you may find you work better with some teams than others and it will all add to increasing your experience and your usefulness to the display companies.

Cheers
Stu

Do the training course, get some experience and write up a log of what you have done. Even better join the ASP an keep your online experience log up to date. That way prospective work providers can see what experience you have.

Keep mannequins and watermelons away from fireworks..they always get hurt..

Thanks, Arthur and Stew for your replies, you seem to confirm that I am at least going in the right direction!
I have already been in contact with some companies in my area and at leats one of them seems to be very interested, even at this point.
Just one question at this point though...
Who and where are the ASP and how can I contact them ( sorry, that's three questions, I know, but who's counting ?).
Thanks again for your replies, guys,
Regards, Roy.

Several members have online logs so that a venue or promoter can check on their prior experience.

Getting work is easy! Getting paid work is less easy. You really need to be a casual employee to be certain that you are covered by the work provider's insurance.

Just as a general question, what are job opportunities like in this sector at the moment? With the downturn etc, I was wondering if companies are still taking new people on.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)
