iv managed to find someone that could make me a comet pump and gave them my spec ect, one thing they asked was what material it was to be made of. i asked for non sparking metal due to the nature of use and he recommended the outer casing stainless steel then the pump part brass.

would this be ok or should i be insisting on all aluminium or all brass ect.

Aluminium (uncoated) is soft so will wear heavily esp if you are using titanium. Stainless steel is good but all grades are not created equal. Steer clear of ferritic stainless something like 316L is a good lowish cost compromise. Brass is easy to machine and has a reasonable strength. My personal favorite is Alubronze alloy, seriously non sparking, very tough and good to machine. The drawback is it can be quite expensive if you can't get bar ends.

It has to be said that someone on here has a very nice design using 316 dairy pipe with a nylon66 plunger. These are cheep materials, which will cost you a great deal less than having something machined from bar.

I am interested in alubrozse for a non pyro application. All my pyro tools were made
for me by Wolter Rich. They are nituff aluminium alloy which is alloy impregnated with PTFE.
very hard wearing. My spindle is mirror polished stainless. Very nice bloke.
