The green room REFRESHMENTS and humour...

Just some discussion about the current state of the takeaway food industry, (look out for my new business coming soon!!! (Perhaps.)

I know lots of people (myself included) who would never by a sandwich from a sandwich shop, exactly for the reason that there is such a mark up. I've worked in several schools, and most people bring their own packed lunches in- although a few people do go to sandwich bars etc too.

It's worth point out too that it does seem that takeaway/pub food is being "hit by the crunch" too- Around where I live at the moment there are pizza places doing buy one get one free, one place doing all 9 inches pizzas £3, pubs doing meals for £3.50, one pub doing single items for £1 each etc...

Also, unless the customer has access to food at wholesale prices, then the mark up on bacon sandwiches isn't actually that much (although of course depends on selling price.) I pay £1.25 for a bacon sandwich, with 4 rashers, at the University Spar- an uncooked packet of bacon, 8 rashers, is £1.79.
OK, interest in fireworks to be resumed in the spring. It usually is. ;)

on the carnival circuits, some of the catering vans only work the circuit as this makes them enough to live on all year (so i heard one saying to a customer!)

That may be true- but then we ARE talking a constant stream of customers, paying daft mark ups!

Or again, perhaps not- possibly more people are savvy and will be bringing thier own!

I went to a classical concert with fireworks at a stately home, and they had food vans and even a mobile bar- very few people were using them, though, as they had packed their own wine and sandwiches.
