:D Hi! I've noticed with various brands of Cat3 display rocket MASSIVE differences between effects in terms of burn/hangtime. Is this because some effects perform better than others and spread out to fill the sky OR is it costcutting by various manufacturers? I had a Maverick Silberdrachen 6oz display rocket in red/green and white stars effect and was very disappointed with it;the stars seemed very thin and spread out and inconsistent with a blink and you'll miss it burn time.:(

Pretty obv id have said. Buy what you know works and ignore what you know is rubbish. It will be a combination of everything you said. Some will truly want people to have good fireworks, others is all about marketing and wont care what they sell so long as they do sell.

What can you do about this? NOTHING unless you DONT buy what is poor and do buy what is good.

:( A lot of retailers buy brands of fireworks on perceived value NOT performance/price terms and frankly couldn't care less whether they are good, mediocre, average or poor! This is very good reason for manufacturers to bring out CD-ROMS and DVD-ROMS and VHS cassettes of their goods performance and allow members of the public to see what they perform like so they have a good idea as to whether to buy them or not as the case may be.;)

Of course people buy on percieved value. Why do you think 60% of a selection box is air?! If it wasnt they wouldnt sell.
CD's and VHS's done work either, Its incresibly easy to fool people with them, and there is normally no perception of scale when filiming a dark sky. How do you know the camera was not zoomed in to make it look larger?

If you are going to be buying stuff, it might be worth checking the UK Firework review (www.firework-review.org.uk).
