Hi,
Does anyone know an equation (or even a rule of thumb) for the dimesions for fountain tubes. I need to know the rough ratio of ID to OD for fountains so that I can ensure that the tubes that I roll are strong enough and arnt going to explode on me. I know it varies from nozzle to nozzle and comp to comp but I just need a rough estimate.
Thanks
Tris

A good starting point might be online pyro hobby suppliers. Skylighter, etc generally list I.D and O.D along with applications. Everything else depends on the quality of tube that you make.

Hi,
I am making a fountain with an ID of 2.5cm. I have taken an unused tube from an old commercial firework, which seems to be made of parallel wound chip and have strengthened it up to 1cm wall thickness (using newspaper and wallpaper paste) giving it an OD of 4.5cm. The nearest that I can find to this tube on skylighter is TU1100 which has an ID of 2.5cm and a wall of 1/4" (0.6cm). This would seem to be fine but the skylighter model is made of solid kraft, not a mix of newspaper and chip!
Do you think that my tube will stand up to the task?
Tris

taj,
The 1 inch I.D. tubes that I have from skylighter are the cut to length variety and are not made of kraft. Made drivers out of them if I remember correctly. A 1/4" tube wall should be sufficient if they are well made. Make sure that you make that inside edge lay good and flat. You don't want to end up with what is essentially a piece of black match along the length of your fountain. Incorporate some kraft at the begining of the rolling process.
If your done reading the newspaper....throw it away.
