As anyone used or thought of using Strontium Oxide to produce a red? reading up on it seems to show that it is highly reactive with water so not so sure about ordering it yet.

Stick to strontium nitrate. It is the by far the best red. The cost of keeping it dry is worth it.

How about Strontium carbonate? Isn't this used with perchlorates mostly?

I can actually get better colors from SrCO3 with chlorate rather than perchlorate, at least in organic stars. In my experience, I needed a goodly amount of metal in thee to get really nice carbonate colors with perc.

If you want to go exotic, you might want to look into strontium chloride, or strontium peroxide. They're both known to make very nice colors, and likely be incredibly hard to work with.

I have some experience with SrCl2 anhydrous. Tested it with an ammonium perchlorate/hexamine/magnalium formula.

While the red is incredible, some stars left overnigh got wet. They were NC bound.
