Hi all,
My first attempts at making chlorates with a graphite anode didnt go too well. I didnt erode the anode much, but it didnt make much chlorate either... and the graphite mud is very difficult to filter. So I was thinking about purchaseing some platinum wire for the anode. I have read Alan Yates' excelent website, among others, and it looks like theres much promise for platinum. But: can platinum be run all the way from chlorate to perchlorate? I have read that platinum will errode if the chloride conc. falls too low when makeing chlorate, or when the chlorate conc. falls too low when making perchlorate. I guess too much of the chlorate will precipitate out of solution, assuming potassium chlorate, while there is much chloride in there? What about running all the way from perchlorate to chlorate? Or would i be better off to simply run the cell to produce chlorate (the sensititivity of chlorate over perchlorate is understood.)? what about comercial pool chlorinator electrodes? what are these usually made of ? MMO?
Alot of questions at once I know, but I do appreciate the help.
