Help
Hi peeps, I've tested my first star mines today. First is yankie flashers ( well impressed ), next is lancaster red ( the film doesn't do the colour justice ) and finally granite stars ( far too heavy ). Overall a good test cos I learnt something, the fusing was good, my tubes where adequate, my lift was good and don't use 10mm granite stars.

Potassium nitrate 40
Aluminum (325- Mesh Atomized) 20
Sulfur 10
Dextrin 5
Boric acid 1
Those mines were indeed very nice! I agree with PyroPDC, you had those flashers working very well, both dense, and well timesd. What size did you make them? And did you prime them at all?
As for granite stars, it does depend a lot on what Zinc you use. I've had your problem before, but more recently using 6 micron flake Zinc, I needed to make the stars 20mm just so they would burn for more than a second!

The yankies were cut stars, the slab of comp was about 7mm then I painted a 2mm slurry on top before cutting them at 7mm square. I suppose if I make my granite stars around 5mm and use a perforated cardboard disc between them and the lift charge it may work. (next test)
