Hi,

I am a freelance firer for Fuse Fireworks, a Nottinghamshire (Retford) based display company.

Fuse Fireworks are looking to expand and recruit additional firers, due to increased display bookings, especially over the November season.

They are offering proffesional on-site training throughout the summer months at various displays, followed by the opportunity to take the BPA level 1 course. All training displays will be electrically fired using either the Pyromate system plus FireOne for larger displays.

Fuse Fireworks work strictly within HSE and BPA guidelines, therefore applicants must be 18 or over. In return for the experience and training throughout the summer we would expect you to be available over the November season, and show loyalty to Fuse Fireworks in the future.

Until you have completed your training it is unpaid, but after that you will get paid a firers fee per display.

Just to say to anybody out there I am willing to work for free if its 50 mile radius of my home and as long as I get traveling expenses. I don't mind if it's just stewarding at first.

Did anyone ever hear back from Fuse?

I was told there was training in May, asked for details then never heard anything back from them - no replies to my emails...

Oh, I'm afraid the training was this weekend. Brian had a problem with his laptop and he lost a load of emails. I'm sure if you email him again and explain the situation he'll get back to you. Alternatively try zoe@fuse-fireworks.com if brian doesn't reply within a couple of days.

Several members of the forum have passed the Illuminate Consult cat4 training course over the last three years. All of those would be adequately trained to help with displays professionally.

However there has to be a reciprocal commitment to provide work. I've been "Booked" before for the bookings to evaporate the night before.

I'm sure the training helps, however I would be cautious making sweeping claims on the skill levels of all who attend the course

I don't think anyone should ever assume competance from training alone, Illuminate or BPA.

However, I would certainly be willing to give anyone who had attended this training a trial 'under supervision'...

I was hoping to try and help out and gain experience with a local company this year - BUT - I thought I was being clever by deferring my jury service from July when I was rostered off for 2 weeks anyway (so I would lose my time off!!)
I had a letter this morning informing me I would be required to attend for 2 weeks beginning 1 Nov!!! Sod it.
Anyone know how to avoid it alltogether?

you dont!! unless you are on a specified list of occupations (not many) or are dead or in hospital i believe!
