Can anyone assist me. I am researching Octavius Hunt. I am trying to establish the dates of his early matches to see if he used white phosphorus. Also would like to know more about Bronco fire works. I am only interested up to 1915 when Octavius died. If anyone has any information i would be most pleased to hear. My email is david.cemlyn@googlemail.com

I think there has been mention of Octavious Hunt in Fireworks magazine. I'll have a look at some back issues...

It's almost certain they would have used white phospherous up until the international ban just after 1900. The composition was cheaper than amorphous phospherous based ones and more popular with Joe Public, despite the deadly dangers...

If it's not all on the cutting room floor, you can see me making matches in the last episode of 'The Victorian Pharmacy' BBC2, just started screening! Shameless plug over...

Contact the British Matchbox Label and Booklet Society - they have some very well informed people there, in particular Rev. Littler who has researched th U.K. match industry and published his works pretty widely
