This is a nice relaxed forum, and I don't think people get too anal about where we post, but.......

As a courtesy to Phil, who I believe is lumbered with organising the cat 4 course, it might be an idea to post this in the training (and getting jobs) section.

There is already a long thread there, it might make it easier for him if you started a new one so that he can at a glance gauge when there is enough interest to organise another one.

This is not meant to sound jobs worth, it's just that the ukps staff also have busy lives and if we can make life a bit easier for them then I think we should. (except when it comes to the 100g thingy !!!! grrrr :D )

Hi guys,

We would certainly like to organise another course, but realistically it won't be soon, as many of the members have now done Illuminates CAT 4 & we had a bit of a struggle getting up to 10 (the practical minimum) last time.

I will start a new thread & see how many takers we get...

Crikey - certainly no need to apologise.
I'm sure there will be more courses - I'm also new and have just done the course and can thoroughly recommend it.
Good luck

Afraid not mate  You have to be 18, nothing to do with UKPS, it's the law of the land I'm afraid...

You must be 18 or older to possess adult fireworks, so you must be 18 or older to possess cat4 fireworks.

How old will you be next time the course is run, possibly next summer -that's a years time so you will be 18 or very close. It's unlikely that the society will run the course before then, as there is only a steady flow of members who want it enough to pay the money!

Are you cerain about this.

My interpretation is that - no person under the age of eighteen years shall possess an adult firework in a public place. I doubt a private course venue would be thought of as a public place - at least whilst the course was in progress.

You may also not possess a cat 4 firework unless you are a blah blah - well few of us on the course fall into that category regardless of our age.

It is also an offence to sell fireworks to someone under the age of 18 - but I don't think this would apply on the course - no fireworks are sold or supplied as such - at least not to individuals.

In the dim and distant past I think I remember reading that you must be over 18 to be employed in the manufacture of explosives - this would also not apply on the course as I don't think fusing is regarded as manufacture for the purposes of the law and even if it was - we didn't do any fusing on my course.

But perhaps Illuminate feel that 17 is a bit young anyway.

Over to you Exat808 for the definitive answer?
