They were firing some form of shell/maybe bombett that kind went of burst then a load of small salutes came out and a made a brap sound because they were so fast and many of them.

Are these shell inserts inside a shell? and if so is the basic idea just make a load of small salutes timed fast like 1 sec fuse and fill say a 5 inch shell with them and add burst to spread them?? I have allways thought of making a shell like that too see what it would sound like and obviously it sounds awesome !!!!

Love the longevity of the bursting/falling stars, and the rapid beraq shells,...this is how public displays should be!

Can these maltese Cat 4 beraqs/salutes be sourced in the UK?

Search for the term 'Beraq' - a signature of the Maltese shell builders.

Karl is the man who knows all the secrets, but he is unlikely to give much away, as the Maltese are very proprietorial with their methods & formula! B)

With the advent of the EU pyro directive to ensure free trade in commodities they could be available! HOWEVER as they would be CAD documented as 1.1 fireworks and have a HUGE NEQ most of these fireworks will never see the UK simply because too few people have the 1.1 storage and too few firing companies have the skill experience or equipment needed to fire beraqs the way the Maltese do. Most significantly Beraqs are always fired from steel mortars in Malta, but these are almost uninsurable in the UK. The traditional style of lift for a beraq may not suit a British conventional mortar tube.

Also I think the Maltese factories wouldn't want to over expose their speciality fireworks, turning them into a trade/retail item may well reduce their specialness.

Karl F simply does NOT reveal the secrets of the Maltese factory that he knows.

Im torn on this one, one part of me is saying the Maltese should definately keep-up the secrecy of there firework making methods/formulas for obvious reasons involving commerciality & tradition etc.

But, have we not seen the results of old british firework companies/families taking there formulas to the grave?

I suspect the fireworks culture and its dozens of factories will keep the Maltese traditions alive for quite a while yet...

Meanwhile, some more amazing beraq here:

Lets hope so,...otherwise I might have to consider semi-retiring to Malta with another museum project in mind! :D
