The society has produced a leaflet to increase awareness of the UKPS, and we intend to distribute them across as many firework retailers as possible in time for the busy season.

This is where you come in... If you are visiting a firework retailer in the next few weeks, or have one close by, and would be willing to help, please PM me and I can send you a handful of leaflets to leave near to the till. These are for people to take of their own free will, we aren't expecting retailers to hand them out with each purchase (in fact doing so would be counter productive).

We hope that retailers will be fairly sympathetic to the cause, but some may not have heard of the UKPS, so you may need to explain a little about the society or let them thoroughly read through the leaflet.

Also please remember that if a retailer doesn't want to display them, don't take it personally.

To prevent the same retailer receiving more than one set of leaflets, please repost this list with your name next to the retailer you are willing to supply, I have started it off with a couple of the more well known ones:
Retailer Person to distribute Done?

Galactic Fireworks Pyromaniac303
Roman Firework Company, Doncaster Pyromaniac303
Epic Fireworks/Jimmy's
Pure Party
Fireworks Crazy
HFM

I hope we can get quite a few of these distributed, as I currently have a box of 5000. These have no reference to 2010 on them, however they do mention recent projects such as the Wells at Amberley project, so in a few years they will no longer be as relevant.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just to bump this thread, I hope you are all contacting Paul...

This could give us some good publicity, but we need to get the leaflets out there.

BTW for those who have not seen them, they are a very professional looking item...

Leaflets have been posted to all in the table above who requested them, so should be with you in the next few days.

The reaction by the shops I have taken them to has been very positive, and they were happy to leave them on the counter.

Also I would like suggestions for more retailers, particularly large ones that attract many customers.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul, thanks for the leaflets which arrived today, your right, they are very professional looking with some good relevent UKPS content and support for independant firework retailers.

Ive emailed Newsbox owner Raj (all year round shop), he has kindly agreed we can put our leaflets with him = I will make a visit & despatch them soon.

For those of you that are having trouble finding seasonal firework shops in your area, it might be an idea to email your local authority to ask for a list of licensed firework retailers = I just say I am a member of the public with concerns about bonefida dealers,.... hopefully they will come back to me with a list of addresses.

I've delivered my pile of leaflets to 1st Galaxy Fireworks Ltd, in Ravenshead Notts. May I add, this company has shops in Chesterfield, Newark, Matlock and Derby.

If anyone is having trouble finding firework outlets in there own areas to distribute UKPS leaflets to. Would you please send an email to your local authority licensing department asking for the `public register 2010` regarding register/licensed firework premises.

All you have to do is tell them about the UKPS (put in a link to our site), and that you wish to guide the public to proper licensed sellers.

I now have a 44 outlets covering `Havering` to choose from (of course I won`t be able to cover then all),......but this is an excellent opportunity for guys to help recruit new members to our society during this short window.

That's a bit worrying.
I have a registered premises - but I don't sell fireworks.
I would rather the fact was not available to any Tom Dick or Harry.
I did not realise it was a public register.

Yes I see your point, best check with your authority,....I specifically asked my council for retail outlets selling fireworks to the general public only.

There should be an option for licensed premises that don`t sell to the public to opt-out from the register for public veiwing = this could be a security issue!

When I do my rounds, I will note the premises that are not retail, and point this out to the licensing department.

Martyn; If you are from my area, please send me a PM, I check to see if you are on the list!

There is a possibility that some LA's are in breach of regulations by supplying such info to the public.
MSER 2005 at Schedule 4 para 3 allows for a LA to provide on payment copies of register entries of certain registrations/licenses. Para 7 specifies the occasions when the public will not be given details of the entries and sub para 7 B says that where less than 2 tonnes of HT3 or HT4 explosives are stored no details may be given, and sub para 7 C says that where any explosives are kept for a period of less than 4 weeks ( many seasonal firework retailers) then these too may not be disclosed.
If any Registered store occupier has had their details disclosed by an LA they should consider making a legal challenge to that disclosure.
There is no opt in or opt out. The law is quite clear on when and when not such info may be disclosed.

Blimey thanks for pointing that out exat808,

The list I was emailed (excel file) gave the basic name of the business and the premises storage address with postcodes, but without named individuals, telephone numbers etc. Having looked closer, it also tells you if it is either; REG = registered?, REG + Annual = all round round shop ( I guess)?, LIC = licensed?.

For the record, can you explain the differences between `Registered and Licensed` in the context on how it applies to retail outlets and private storage?

This is a little worrying (from a security point of view) & confusing on the legislation front and listing I was given. On one hand a person can aquire a list of entries from a `public register` upon payment (I guess to cover admin costs) because its in the public domain, or view it at council offices for free (I guess), and yet it seems as if the MSER 2005 regs say different.

I wonder where this sits with the `The Freedom of Information Act`?

We want to promote the UKPS as well as inform the public on where to buy from bonefida licensed retailers (consumer fireworks) should we get enquiries, but not give-away private individual storage details.
