Lime stone CANNOT combust!!! It is CaCO3. In simple terms trying to burn it would be like taking a brick and trying to ignite it by hitting it with a damp stick! Besides temperature isnt the problem! How are you going to efficientlyand safely capture zinc vapour?

Uh! I suggest you come back when you have at least passed GCSE chemistry.

Ohhh dear

"Sorry i don't have a clue"

Isn't the sort of thing we want to be hearing here. As much as I like to encourage new starters, setting fire to things and enjoying it doesnt qualify you as a pyrotechnist (note the differance between that word and 'pyromaniac').

I arent going to kick you off straight away... hang around and see if this forum really is for you after all. Please note a basic grasp of chemistry and physics are pretty much essential in this hobby. "i just saw it on a smelting program on television" doesnt really satisfy this.

Yea i guess so, im pretty odd eh  im more of a fire person at the moment, i love fire, n i've been a human flamethrower once which was cool, simple, but fun :) turned me into a walking petrol charge though hee hee. Coloured flame, or fire effects which you lot might be able to teach me how to do would be great and massively appreciated.

Max

Ahh!!!!

Flamethrower, petrol charge. Its too much, I need a lye down or i'll explode.

My mother told me: 'if you are too ignorant so say something cognative, dont say anything at all'.

OK, It ends here.

You have really embarrased yourself. But it was fun while it lasted.

Do you know how much of an affront it is to be talking about 'human flame throwers' on a site like this.

Good luck...

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "Crash and Burn!".

I see what you mean by the comment "gone to far" on the other link Adamw !

Where did that guy come from???
I checked for new posts a couple of hours ago...nothing much. Then I came back 20 minutes ago and the term "unable to take a hint" has reached new levels of meaning. Was he an exixting member who hadn't posted before, or was that the shortest membership ever :P (even though I guess I shouldn't really find it funny - sorry WTFB)

I think i've just worked out what the limestone was in aid of. It is used in the smelting of iron and tin to 'catch' the scum, all of the unwanted metals and rock. It floats to the surface and can be scooped off to purify the metal.

I dont think that would be much use in the case but still.

couldnt u heat limestone and put in a glass/whatever unmeltable box so when it vapourises u'll be able to catch the vapour on the sheet of whatever, like when u heat water and hold a tray above to stop it all vapourising?

I think we need another smiliey, a sort of confused/you idiot/what the/where did you go to school. Think i'll make do with

Earlier in this thread it said that atomosed zinc is not suitable for zinc spreader stars, so what type of zinc is suitable and where can it be purchaced? :)

Broadsword, I'm getting my Zinc powder in probably two weeks. I haven't seen Zinc powder anywhere else besides Pyrotechnic suppliers, not even at art shops.

Unfortunately the place where I buy my Zinc powder doesn't tell the exact mesh, all it says is 'Zinc dust'. But because it's a pyrotechnic supplier, I'm guessing it will probably have some use. :)

Atomised Zinc will probably work for Zinc/Sulphur compositions, but I guess it won't work for aerial effects. Try looking for something like flake Zinc.

Hey broadsword

there is a chemical supplier who are willing to ship to the public, they sell zinc powder at ?4.45 for 500g. I'm not sure of the mesh or particle shape but the powder is very fine. I've private messaged you the suppliers name.
