I would like to try this formula out, when you say KP are you referring to Shimizu's formula? Can you just use Potassium Perchlorate on its own or will this affect the colour?

Yes, KP in formulas (unless stated) refers to Potassium Perchlorate.

Not a problem. I believe It's ease of writing, and remember, the symbol for Potassium is K

Abbreviations that deviate from the element letters can and will cause confusion, some can be resolved by the context others not so easily resolved.

Made about 40g of Seymour's blue formula for this halloween, hand rolled them into 1/4" pellets for bombettes and primed them with BP/al. Will get back to you all. Possibly with video if the weather permits this year...

The main reason I was confused was because KP also refers to a formula by Takeo Shimizu http://www.pyroguide...ex.php?title=KP

Did you get a chance to fire these?

I mixed a bit of this up and tried it gently pressed into a lance tube. The colour was good for a KClO4 blue, though not as good as an AP oxidised mix as you might expect. Previous experience make me suspect it would work a bit better as a smallish star.

For very good colour, ignition and big flame envelope try this one:

KClO3 60
Lactose 20
Parlon 10
CuO(black) 10

Bind with acetone.
