hello, ive had quite a few people contact me regarding the production of custom/ one off pyrotechnical tooling.

my question is, can a tooling business be set up legally? its never been done before so there's no president.
hopfully i can work within the law if i know what the law is?
lets face it a star plate is a block of ali with holes in it

You may wish to look further than domestic legislation. Is there any EU conformity legislation that would capture the products that you wish to manufacture? Will they have to be submitted for CE marking along the lines of electrical items?
This is not an area I am familiar with outside of the explosives environment.

Here is some reading on CE marking, hopefully it should give you guidence/links for `Type Approval` and other related directives or licenses, and if its applicable for tooling products.

Your local chamber of commerce will also guide you.

Might also be worth checking to see if there are any trade associations for tool makers!

thanks guys, i thought it would get real heavy, real fast
i may look at other options, like providing a "general machining services" type operation the same as you would get in any town/city

CE applies usually to items "placed on the market" if you provide a custom machining service then there are few legal restrictions, the details are in the contract and drawings. However on this forum I'd want to be certain that nothing I made could be turned into a weapon of the firearm nature.

What style of machining can you offer, I have a couple of non pyro projects that need parts making. Can you do lathe work to 200 OD and 500 long? Welding (steel)? plasma cutting?

thanks for the input :) , ive no intention of making anything dodgy, just basic pyro hobby tooling and will have a "open door policy" where anybody can come around and inspect.
im still in the early stages of setting up and im only planning to make small scale lathe work up to 100mm od, as i dont know if there would be enough demand to justify spending lots on machinery as yet.
your project sounds interesting, sorry i cant help my weldings not the best, lots people try welding but it truly is a trade in its self -_-
