Hi All,

Has anyone used either Shimizu's Golden Wave or Alan Yates' variation of it (Nitrate Golden Falls) as fountain comp ???

Question is - Can it be choked or is it too vigorous & will the fountain go bang ?

I am making some fountains for the weekend, as a contrast to the 72 shells I have and I am wondering whether to choke this particular one or leave it unchoked.

All my fountains are 25mm ID with a 12mm choke (if used) & are 250mm long.

Any experiences ??

I made Golden Wave No 3 (The KNO3 based one) earlier this year as pumped stars and I have been unsuccesful in getting them to light very well. When I do get the odd one to light, it is very drossy so use a large choke or an unchoked tube. You might need to put an antimony star in as a starter fire because of the high Al content.

Yeah I found it was hard to light.

I did find that my standard prime (BP + 10% Si) would ignite it though, so that was my plan, to ram the 1st increment of prime before moving on to the comp.

Just stick with the tried and true method by adding coarse flake aluminum to a black powder based fountain slowed down with -70 pine charcoal.
