Our saviours : In the ninth century, a team of Chinese alchemists trying to synthesize an "elixir of immortality" from saltpeter, sulfur, realgar, and dried honey instead invented gunpowder.

Personally large wham bam sky burst firework displays of any kind leave me a little non-plus & wanting something a little different & more interesting or subtle on occasion, that said I thought the colours were different & better co-ordinated than usual, clock tower firing and music sampling were also pretty good & varied to suit the diversity of the crowd.

I don`t know for sure, but I believe some of these GLA tenders/contracts run for a period of a few years = thats probably why Kimbolton seem to be heading up these big events more & more in recent times, that said, and what with Boris being a Tory mayor and the Ron`s son being an Tory MP should we not be surprised?

Im more than happy that British companies like Kimbolton are getting these contracts,...... having spoken with the Boris`s event team at the GLA a few years ago to convince him to use UK based firms for displays etc, they said in essence they will favour firework display contracts to UK companies providing they offer somthing "artistically" different as opposed to being just a british company for the sake of it (EU competition rules).

Once the tenders are up for renewl, in my opinion there is no reason why a few smaller firework display operators on this forum can not work together to do these big shows.

Overall I thought it was a good display, well done Kimbolton!

Guess the big boys always attract this type of rubishing and they will be used to it, for you to suggest they got this contract through business ties is beyond me.

Its very sad.

Kimbolton Fireworks have contacted me regarding the NYE topic - I have to agree with them that some of the comments are potentially libellous / slanderous and so I have temporarily removed the topic for the time being while the matter is reviewed.

I would strongly urge posters to consider very carefully that comments posted on a public forum could result in civil or criminal liability.

I echo Richard's comments & would add that as a British manufacturer we should be giving Kimbolton all the support we can.

From what I saw on the telly, it looked a great display - will get a first hand report when my son returns from seeing it live in London...

Everyone must remember that this is a public forum, think what you like, but be sure before you say it - it's your society that could get sued out of existance!!!

Yes agreed we should all be behind Kimbolton not against them, they have done more for our industry than some people on here realise, obviously.

Wouldn't it be better to moderate out any potentially problematic posts, instead of pulling the thread, leaving a full cache of the topic available for public viewing?

as much as i am pro kimbolton especially everything the rev has done for the industry. But if we cant comment an opinion and are forced to be censored with the ukps backing then i no longer want anything to do with the UKPS.

its bad enough anyone that even slightly comments on the board about making pyro then they are flamed (even if they dont come from this country) now nobody can have an opinion unless it fits with the ukps views.

so i bid the ukps fair well and all the best.

Opinions are fine - comments that may result in legal action against yourself or worse, the UKPS are not. To reiterate, this is a public forum, it does not reflect the views of UKPS whatsoever - only of the forum users themselves. Paul - are you over reacting here slightly? It is I who have had to deal with this on return from my break away.

I think someone needs to take a long look at what they wrote and try to understand the seriousness of it and the VERY difficult position those comments have put the UKPS in.

And probably less importantly the detrimental effects it will have on your trade relationship with Kimbolton.
