Loci,

After looking at the web site it appears the course is geared more to the SFX side of things. If your interest is more towards the fireworks side of pyro then maybe you should look around. At the end of the day a lot of the course will be similar no matter which you choose.
Other things to look out for, I see this course gives you a certificate after a final exam. Find out if the certificate is just something pretty to hang on the wall or if it is recognised within any of the related industry?s.
No matter who you go to for training it should be very much the same as all these companies arrange there training around current legislation and a large portion of the course is devoted to safety.

You can almost guarantee that this certificate will be worthless from being a recognised trained person perspective. Most companies who run these courses, run them for novices who want to fire a large cat 3 pack at their Round Table function etc. Loughborough University were doing courses and this seemed to be the most likely to recognised until the government screwed up the possibility of legally recognised persons for firework handling a few years back. Try Loughborough University first as they still will probably be the most likely to be recognised if the law is changed.

Thanks guys, I had a look at the Loughborough University site and couldn't find anything that might be useful. I might have missed it but I dought it. What course did they do? and how would you go about getting recognised training?

I believe Loughborough were doing courses of different levels for display operators down to the guy who wanted to do the once a year cat 3 display. AFAIK there are no legally recognised firework training courses running in the UK. What is your ultimate aim? If you wish to use cat 4 material, your best bet would be to offer a little free labour to a local display company and build up some experience. Otherwise you will need proper storage (Not mode A or B), Insurance, Proof of professionalism (i.e be a proper company) and it's a lot of trouble.
