Details are firming up and we hope to publish full information and preliminary running order next week.

Could anyone who would like to contribute either cash to the display fund or a prize for the raffle, please let me know by PM.

I'll set the ball rolling with £50 and a cake for the raffle - firework not edible!

Last year was the first one I've been to, and thoroughly enjoyable - put me down for £50.

I was going to contact our local paper and see if they would like to run a feature on the UKPS and publicise the display etc.

I will advise neighbours etc about the display, but as you can emagine living near me they quite used to fireworks and look forward to our impromtu displays so they will be looking forward to it.

When we have a bit more info of the day and the likely time of the display i will start doing so networking to get the word out  :D

Good idea regarding the local newspaper publicity = go for it,........... I ve posted some information about our event on Crewkerne towns website :)

Just a request but could the agm do some more hands on practical demonstrations, we have the 100g rule. let use it to our advantage.

we come to forum to learn safely a hobby we all enjoy. all could be done within 100g rule

star rolling

Comet making (using Resorcinol Resin so they dry within 10 min)

BP competition ( bring 10g of your best bp and have it tested and timed to other competitors)

Charcoal making demonstrations

Maybe vic could make a 100g rockets being made and tested.

All we would need is a small marquee.

@PyroPDC, hope this can be arranged. I have had lots of experience of firing, but I have only ever made flash based products, think it would be good for lots of us. When you say a small marquee, would one of those large b&q type ones be any good? I can also get some good quality plastic tables (6'x4') and chairs to site.

We're trying to arrange that a local charity has a disco on the same night, so some extra people can have the benefit of the display.

Vince can pretty much see the sports field from his house & knows of several displays that have been held there, so hopefully the locals will be on our side!

I don`t know if the committee would be interested, but I contact the Town Crier about his services - he charges £30 per hour to announce events, but seeing we are a not for profit society he`s asking £25 to cover expenses.

Here is a preliminary running order for the AGM:

Arrive from 12:30pm for a 1:00pm start

1:00pm - 1:30pm AGM (with luck this will not take the full 30 minutes allocated). Includes 'State of the Nation' from Steve and a statement of the accounting situation from Paul Dack.
There are no elections this year.

1:30pm - 2:00pm Alan Morely MSc BSc MIExpE.(President of IExPE) Talks about fireworks and how UKPS members can get involved with the Institute of Explosives Engineers.

2:00pm - 2:30pm Chris Clarke, Director of Sonning Fireworks talks about his company and their Pyromusicals.

2:30pm - 3:00pm Phil Dunford AIExpE- A brief history of fireworks.

3:00pm - 3:30pm Break - Tea, Coffee, etc.

3:30pm - 4:00pm Steve Miller MIExpE. Pyromusicals 'The Old Fashioned Way'. How to do it with a CD player and a stopwatch.

4:00pm - 4-30pm Paul Dack. Pyromusicals 'The New Fashioned Way'. How to do it with a Fire One system.

4:45pm Set up display in field

7:00pm Firework Display

7;20pm Fireworks cool down

7:30pm Fireworks clear up/pack up - All to help please, so we get this done as quickly as possible.

8:30pm onwards -  Social/Meal

We take on board the interest in a mini-PGI, but time, insurance, the presence of the General Public and the uncertainty of what we can do under 9.2, rule it out for this event. However, we have some ideas in the pipeline and it should be possible to have such an event at a private venue, where the public do not have access. Watch this space.

We will have tables set up for you to show any items of interest - Please PM me if you would like to do this, so we know what to put out.

Both our guest speakers are of a high caliber, and we hope you will all come along to see them and have another great day.

Remember, it's open to members and non-members.

Nice one, I ve spread the word to Crewkernes Museum & the local Astronomical Society, and posted a final running order details of our event at the Crewkerne Towns website again :)

.

Is there any chance you could put up a few mini notices or cards in newsagent windows telling peeps about our event?

Do you have a local radio station in Crewkerne?

Whilst I agree that we should be promoting the UKPS as much as we can, I'm a bit undecided about the love affair with the general public, town criers etc.

I wouldn't want the AGM to be dumbed down to the level that had mass 'bloke in the street' appeal.

For me, the attraction of the AGM is the specialist / professional / 'nerdy' speakers. (meant in the kindest possible way and I include myself as a firework nerd)

I also enjoy the atmosphere that we are all 'friends' and part of the family and as such can chat to each other without worrying too much about what we are saying.

As for the display, the more spectators the merrier.

It's hard to get my view across without sounding unwelcoming, I'd just be a bit concerned that we may end up with a load of people who had walked into the hall and didn't get what they were expecting.

I largely agree with the point you're making, it's quite a specialised event not just a regular fireworks display. I'm all for promoting as much as possible so long as it's in relevant places. Last year we had notices put up in the Chemistry department of the local University for example. No idea if it attracted any attendees, but if it did at least they'd get what they were expecting!
