Hi all

 

I'm adept at making my own BP for lift but even considering the proposed new regs for experimentation and 100g rule plus COER storage restrictions etc it would be simpler if I could use Goex or similar smokeless propellant for lift sometimes.

 

Has anyone really given it the time of day and had any success? I know it needs to be confined very well but beyond ensuring your shells are a tight fit I'm not quite sure how that might work. I know some have said it is a waste of time and I do appreciate that I can mill far better BP but it would make life simpler if a less strictly controlled powder could be used instead.

The confinement needed is far greater than you'd manage with even a tight fitting shell. And surely the point of pyro is the making?

Well the point is the construction of a shell (for me) and I could do without the headache of milling and storing BP just for the purposes of lift.

As Cooperman said, Pyrodex needs high pressure to burn rapidly enough to work as a propellant.

It's not suitable for lifting shells, unless you really wedged them in, with no blow-by
