OK decided to take the plunge. I have a couple of questions with regards to the form and procedure.

1:  Do I need to get / make a storage box before I submit the application?  What I mean is I have no idea of what to expect in the way of timescale. If I send the application would the ELO be wanting to come round quickly or is this likely to take months? and will I need to have a storage box ready for him to inspect there and then?

2: PART C, 6 If you have never had any certificate, please detail your experience in the use and handling of explosives. I think I've touched on this before in previous posts and been advised "just be honest". I accept this comment and intend to be but how have other applicants worded this without making it sound to incriminating? like "I've been making fireworks all my life but now I have a chance to do it legally that's what I want to do"

3: Part E,10 Date on which / between which the explosives certificate  is required. Do I leave this blank? I mean Its from whenever they decide to issue it until it ends right? (maximum 5 years) according to the form.

Also under the previous paragraph. Explosives required: Just UN0027 and UN0028 Blackpowder? or do I need to write 100g (or less) explosives and pyrotechnics in accordance with MSER2005 reg 9 (2) (a) ? as I've given this as the "purpose for which the explosives are required" in the above box.

I think that's pretty much it as the rest is straight forward as I know my own name and address

Hi Rod,

See my annotations below.

Don't forget some of the COER application process and requirements will vary with your regional Police association.  Also, remember that your ELO is there to help, if you get stuck, give them a ring....they won't bite!

I have asked my ELO for a digital copy of the form and if a "pyro" specific form is available yet.  I wait to hear.  I'm hoping to include this in guidance.

I did, but I'm not sure this is strictly necessary.  I would suggest that it demonstrates a level of diligence on your part if the box in already in place for inspection.

As suggested, be honest.  Include any actual experience with Pyro (commercial or experimentation) and also that your are a member of the society.

That depends if it a free COER or chargeable.  Because I have a store and COER, the COER is chargeable and the fee varies dependent on the period of license.  If you are applying for a free licence, leave it blank.

You will have to name the explosives and provide the UN numbers.  You can't really ask for a explosive licence for any explosive...AFAIK!  I just listed UN0027 and UN0028 (flash will additionally be required after 01/10).

I think that's pretty much it as the rest is straight forward as I know my own name and address

Thanks Wayne, I've ordered a storage box as I haven't got a great deal of time at the moment to try putting one together and then the ELO saying it isn't up to spec or something. I'll finish the form off over the weekend then get it in the post next week I hope. Wish me luck.
