I've been playing with this one for a while, and I think I have it right where I want it.

In the beginning I wanted to design/make my own composition for a small garden firework, that I could share and was easy for the beginners in this hobby.

Everyone likes red, so I went green.

I've tweaked this comp more times, hence the .6s and .7s.

I press them to 60 bar in 8mm i.d. 90mm long home rolled tubes, with a 3mm nozzle on spindle tooling.

I can press one in about 3 minutes.

Here's the comp.

Pot perc----------42.6

Barium nitrate---28.7

Magnalium-------11.5

Parlon------------11.5

Red gum---------5.7

More details to come.

As it's small scale, is it worth me putting a little picture tutorial together for the newcomers?

I don't see why not, would be good to see video of the said piece in action as well.

But I would say any inspired newbies will run a mile when they realise the legal requirements needed to make one.

Freud. Artists, in this view, are people who may avoid neurosis and perversion by sublimating their impulses in their work.

Here goes then.

Bare in mind, I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel, purely trying to wake everyone up, myself included.

Coz it has gone a little quiet lately.

These are first takes on the whole project, and the only fault I can see is, I need thicker walled tubes for such comps. I just used what I had, which are my whistle rocket tubes.

Set out your equipment on fresh paper covering.

[attachment=619:2014-10-30 16.47.35.jpg]

Fit your tube into your clam block or steel tube or what ever you use to stop your paper tube bursting.

[attachment=620:2014-10-30 16.50.04.jpg]

Add one increment of nozzle clay. An increment should be around the same hight when pressed as the I.D. of your tube.

Nozzle clay can be a number of different clays, bentonite, terracotta etc.

I personally recycle from old firework. I haven't bought clay for 4 years

Insert your first rammer.

And press with what ever pressing method you have.

[attachment=624:2014-10-30 16.54.33.jpg]

I press these to 60 bar, I have to times my gauge reading by 1.5 for a correct reading

[attachment=625:2014-10-30 16.55.27.jpg]

Next add an increment of fuel/comp and press to the same pressure.

This comp has metals in it so should not be rammed with a mallet.

When you have filled and pressed your tube as far as you can, you need to leave enough room to press half of an increment of clay to cap the firework off.

There you have it. Take it out of your clam/tube support

[attachment=627:2014-10-30 17.04.40.jpg]

[attachment=628:2014-10-30 17.05.18.jpg]

Tape on a stick, sharpened at the bottom to shove into the ground.

[attachment=629:2014-10-30 17.10.12.jpg]

Add a length of fuse. I always wedge my fuse in these small fireworks with a pinch of scrap polystyrene.

[attachment=630:2014-10-30 17.10.33.jpg]

The polystyrene burns off instantly when the fuse touches it.

[attachment=631:2014-10-30 17.11.05.jpg]

go out and light it.

I'll upload video soon.

Possibly a little too much for one post.

Not sure why the files have done that.

Never had that before.

Could you try again please, possible you need to upload them to pyrobin or somewhere and link to them

Thanks

It pissed me off too. It took me ages to do all that.

Other forums, they just load up, you don't have to go through another host.
