I’m having a clear out folks.

First of all I have two powder puck presses, I’ve used two like these for years and I part made these two for spares. But the two I’ve used aren’t showing any signs of ware, so I finished these off to flog to anyone that wants them.

I just use my Record joiners vice to press the insert flush with the top of the tube, after putting in the measured amount of powder and dampened with 5% water/alcohol  (75/25).

Second, I’ve got my main rocket tooling. (Haven’t got time to enjoy anymore)

I have made hundreds of rockets with this tooling I made many years ago.

I made it to use the frowned upon plastic electrical conduit from B&Q, which work absolutely fantastic. I have also rolled my own paper tubes to the same size of the conduit, so I have included two resin rods to roll your own (80cm of regular 80gsm paper).

The tube size is 17mm I.D. and 100mm long.

The spindle is 5cm long and tapers from 6mm to 4.5mm with a small nozzle flare.

This tooling also doubles up to make fountains.

Just turn the rammers round and they fit the other spindle (same tube) .

There is also another spindle to make a nozzle and no core.

Included is :

Three nozzles with two bases,

Three aluminium rammers with pulling bar,

Armour tube with jubilees clips to stop you bursting your tubes,

Two resin rolling bars wrapped with insulating tape, this covers for shrinkage,

Forty six plastic tubes cut to size and not in the picture, a length of rubber to wrap around the pressed motor if it is a stubborn mule to twist off.

The fuel I always used was “Estes C” comp. I will supply comp if anyone is interested.

Third and last is a set of tooling I never even got around to using, so I can’t even say it works or what fuel mix to use. I made it over a year ago and then forgot I’d made it.

Again I made it for B&Q conduit, but the next size up, and again I have made a resin rod to roll your own paper tube.

The tube I.D. is 21.5mm and 19cm long (massussive).

The spindle is 13cm long (massussiverrr), nozzle end is 10mm tapering down to 6.6mm.

Because the spindle is so long I made it with an extracting system. Meaning that if the pressed motor won’t twist of, you unscrew the 10mm bolt to release the spindle from the base, then, you put the small piece of tube (supplied) on the bottom of the motor and thread in the M8 bolt in the bottom, this in turn will pop/release the motor from the spindle.

One thing I have thought about while writing this is, because the spindle is all aluminium which is softer than Brass, I personally would give the whole assembly a good few taps on the bench after dropping each increment of powder in to even it out around the spindle, just to save bending the spindle on pressing.

Included is:

Spindle with base,

Three rammers,

Armour tube with jubilees,

Extraction tube and bolt,

Increment scoop,

Resin rolling rod,

Tube length gauge, aluminium (push tube in till it stops and cut flush with the end of the tube).

And three pre-cut plastic conduit tubes.

As a society we do occasionally arrange competency courses, I for one am looking at arranging one in Yorkshire this year for a number of staff and friends which will be opened for everyone that wants to attend

cooperman, if you do the cat 4 course what other things do you need to do to buy cat 4 shells for personal displays

In order to purchase Category 4 fireworks the importer will require you to have the following:

 

Public Liability Insurance

Licensed Storage

Proof of competence / specialist knowledge

 

Storage is easy enough to sort, you need a remote location and a building or shipping container that your local trading standards are happy to licence. Proof of competence, again not so bad to obtain, you need to have worked on a handful of shows and undertake training courses with either the BPA or Illuminate Consult under the umbrella of a professional company. Insurance may be your sticking point, insurers will look into your level of experience and will generally require you to have a number of years experience before offering you cover.

 

If you want to get involved with professional fireworks my advice is to contact a local company and see if they ahve any shows you can help out on

Being in Northern Ireland will mean that Danny29186 must get very specific advice relating to the relevant enactments of Statute as they apply in that area. 

Shells will always be for professional use only, the mini shells that are available in the USA are not likely to ever become available in the UK. BY professional standards a 2" (the smallest) shell needs a 50m safety distance which is beyond some domestic gardens.

I have just had word from someone who does know the laws, he will comment later. simply the regs that apply in NI are very specific to NI and certainly NOT the same as the GB regs.
