Sadly I know people who started bucket cells before the yanks, and made product for pyro. It's so much simpler to make chlorate than to jump to hoops and drive the miles. It's harder to make perc, so I hope people will be careful about the limitations and incompatibilities of chlorates. I see the downside of the precursor regs being DIY and some unintentional bangs when people try to sub chlorate into a nitrate formulation. 

 

I used to work in a multi KA plating plant so I've seen the issues with electrochemical production, lots of others have even less experience.

Nothing wrong with a good bucket cell. I have the kit for a slightly more automated version than a bucket, good quailty mmo annodes and 100 amp 4 volt power supply.

 

It is pretty easy to produce good quailty KCLO3 directly. No need for any messing around. 

 

If you do need to make perc, there is an abundance of platinised electrodes available out ther these days. Even with a coating of a few microns a cheap set should keep anyone in perc indefinitely for hobby purposes, with a little bit of effort.

Well I agree that many suppliers will when their stocks are gone now not replenish them, but we only really need one or two that do to keep things available, the extra paperwork is pretty much immaterial, signing a licence at the point of sale is no hassle to me as I see it?

 

No I certainly couldn't justify opening a physical shop for Hobby chemicals but why is there any need to?

 

Ive no idea on the numbers of people now licenced as none nave come to me yet, that said the number of active pyros ahs been dwindling for many years now so this has simply accelerated the drop.

So,as I see it,I wasted my time and money becoming legal then?

Why are people suddenly dropping out? OB for example,does not want the hassle of checking licences.

Therefor,the legislation will just drive us all back underground. Nice FU.

Well that's a bit of good news - Its nice to hear at least some folk have managed to get sorted out.  

 

I haven't started down that road and haven't made much since my visit.  Hoping to move house and then try getting legal.

Yes;I am legal got my epp and a&k. Jumped through all the bloody hoops to have
my hobby of over 20 years destroyed by the pathetic legislation. What this does for prevention
of terrorism is nothing just look at France. They were not using
anything that we would use just firearms. They are illegal as well
but the purveyors of terror have no trouble obtaining their supplies unlike
legitimate hobbyists

If not,  I`m sure Maxman and Dannytsg will find this interesting as they are also in the Manchester area.

As I said before I really don't see why the chemicals will "dry up", yes suppliers may be scarce but there will still be availability.

Don't forget that also with having the precursor licence ANY supplier can now be used too.

I wouldn't like to rely on commercial chemical suppliers, one has found my email and sends their monthly catalogue but refuses to send me anything if I try to order even the most innocuous things  (Litmus paper!)

Its all possible people, lets stop being so pessimistic in regards to the new legislation.  Yes, it was all easier without it, but that's the way of the modern world and be thankful that its still possible at all!
