Can anyone recommend any good motors to use on a ball mill.

You simply want something sealed and aoropriate speed, I've used 1400 rpm food grade motors many times on mine with pulleys to regulate RPM as they are safer with potentially flammable powders nearbye

old fan motors work very well as they often have a speed controller attached

They are not really suitable at all.

They are open motors using air cooling so are potentially very likely to ignite any loose powders.

They are also not designed for such high loads especially after the air flow given to them by the fan blades has also been lost.
