Has anyone else been having difficulty accessing the forum? I've been getting 'site unavailable' on and off recently, and haven't been able to access from home for around 3 weeks. Similar at work on a completely different host. This in spite of refreshes etc. I was beginning to wonder ...

No problems here. Could be your ISP? Anyone else got any problems?

Weird! The thing was this was both BT Internet AND Demon. I had heard that BT Internet often had problems leaving sites out of their DNS servers (and denying it), but I lost the forum for 2 weeks on Demon as well. Of course anyone having trouble wouldn't be reading this...

By the way Richard I also emailed you several days ago asking you the same question; I take it you didn't get that. In the email I hinted at something sinister going on. I'm still wondering!

I have had the odd issue on and off for a while. Normally just out for a night then can get back in the next day.
My issue is not DNS as I can do a DNS lookup using nslookup and the name resolves to the IP address of the server and I can ping it. Just no HTTP communication to name or ip, almost as if the server or ISP hits a limit and wont allow any more connections.

I occasionally get a "The page cannot be displayed" type message when I try to access the forum home page. However, I sometimes find I am able to get on by picking another page of the forum (eg a topic) from my history folder, and going to that. If not, the problem usually sorts itself out within a few hours.

I am still unable to access via demon. I checked with a whois service today and got the following (more personal details omited):

Name servers listed in order:
ns1.sitehqdns.co.uk (unable to validate IP)
ns2.sitehqdns.co.uk (unable to validate IP)

WHOIS database last updated at 19:00:01 19-Jul-2004

--
© Nominet UK 1996 - 2004

Now I don't know how significant the '(unable to validate IP)' is but on other sites that I tried it gave the correct IP address, whereas ukrocketry was not identified on any whois server I tried. (To be fair they were all quoting Nominet)

I'll speak to my host and see if the problem is with them or with your ISP.

Cheers

Right, I have changed the name servers at the advice of my host. It seems Nominet decided to drop them! Hopefully this should fix all problems within the next 24-48 hours.

Cheers all.
