Hobby mad, and able to stay a kid myself seeing as I have none that I know of.
Love things that are going against the general populus grain, the more wayout the better.
Been firework mad since I was 12 and back then you could buy them yourself at that age. Now rather interested in the actual composition, as well as the theories behind everything related.
Bit of a horder and now have an 18ft shed at the bottom of the garden which is rapidly filling up.

Hi Guys,
One thing I've been thinking about is having one of those screens they seem to use in Mythbusters, that they can run behind when they are about to set something off.
They seem to be heavy duty and explosive resistant, but I'd imagine finantially resistant as well... what are the best options for a normal enthusiast.
The safer and better for a price, as I'd rather spend a bit more than regret it on the day...so to speak.
doesn't neccessarily need to be portable, as I could build it into something.... when my wife isn't looking ;-)
Cheers

Primer Challenge
17 November 2011 - 10:03 PM
Hey Guys,
Right, as another part of my hobbyist environment I am just learning how to reload Firearms cartridges (bullets for the layman :-) ), and a suprising turn up for the books, the only part of the reloading components that has a form of licensing is the primer, and the reason being for this is its the only component that cannot be made by hand.
My challenge by the gunshop is to make my own primer, as I said that it is a load of rubbish (I bought a load just in case).
any ideas, my thoughs is it is a sulphur based concussion (possibly a chlorate mixture?) ignition, but from there I am at a loss.
over to you experts.

Waterfall composition
11 November 2011 - 12:03 PM
Hi Guys,
Firstly sorry for being offline all summer, work issues can be a pain for your social life.
I have been talking to my Boss regarding waterfalls and fancied making one at the weekend, but looking at the 'Fireworks P&P manual' the composition looks remarkably similar to Flash and I'm a bit nervous on whether this is a sensible composition for me yet, as I have made about 4gms of flash in the past and have a huge respect for that mixture.
Any ideas or pointers.

Coloured smoke (Red)
07 June 2011 - 03:49 PM
Hey Guys,
Sorry for being offline for a few months, the employment axe man arriveth and I along with many others were given our marching orders, so I have spend the last couple of months in the garden building and renovating.
Well, since Northwest Leicestershire seems to be under a deluge today I though I would try out some of the keystone colours that were kindly given to me by one of their managers, the formula I used was thus;
Pot Chlorate 30%
red Dye 30%
Dextrose 40%
I used a large diameter cardboard tube and all went well at first but my instinct told me that the cardboard was providing unneccessary fuel and instead of smoke I was getting a flame (see the you tube vid below)
Am I correct, and if so I assume I need to use a flame retardant on the tube first?
How is everyone anyway :-) ?
