Did Steve's talk get video'd?? I missed the first hour or so due to a large influx of cows onto the M6 and a few other holdups, and would like to catch up with the bits I missed please. -

Sparky, on 31 March 2012 - 11:59 AM, said:Just fYI, I tried this in a small salute last night and it was surprisingly good. I really nice loud crack, especially for its size. I presume it's far safer than flash so seems to make a good alternative for the more paranoid among us?
It's likely to be less static sensitive than flash, but a lot more sensitive than BP I would reckon. It strikes me that rather than making whistle mix and BP then mixing them it would be much safer to mix the KNO3 and KClO4 together in one mix, then the charcoal, sulphur and benzoate in another, then combine the two: that way you'll never have pure whistle mix (which is sensitive and powerful) in existence. I also suspect that it's probably possible to do without a lot if not all the sulphur for lift purposes, as the KClO4 will make the mix burn hot enough to deecompose the KNO3. -

Yes, it's poky stuff, respect. One thing to watch is that when confined its burning rate increases much more than straight BP, hence I guess it can put a lot more stress on shell construction and the mortar. There's some interesting mixtures to be made of KNO3, Kperc, benzoate and other fuels, I'm currently researching this whenever I get the time.
