Topics I've Started

  1. Part "P" Electrical consultation

    26 March 2012 - 10:13 PM

Nothing to do with pyro, but I know that many of you are involved with small/medium electrical installations.

Part P was introduced a few years ago & means that you now can't, add a new circuit to your fusebox, put a downligher in your bathroom or connect up a pond fountain - among many other things.

I have a City and Guilds 17th Edition qualification, but I still (in theory) have to pay £200 to building control to come and inspect my work (might only be a £2 socket) or join a registration scheme at about £1000 a year!

The scheme is widely ignored and as usual has resulted in jobs for the boys and more costs for everyone.

Well, the goverment has launched a consultation & one of the options (my prefered) is to SCRAP PART P!

It's open to individuals & companies to respond, but we've only got to 27th April.

Now if you love Part P, best of luck to you, if you don't get your response in asap and tell all your friends.

    The consultation is at http://www.communiti...ltationsection3
  2. No Spark?

    01 November 2011 - 10:05 AM

Apologies that Spark has not landed on your doorstep in time for November 5th this year.

I'm afraid that I greatly underestimated the amount of work created by our move to Dorset & have not had the time to do Spark.

That said, neither have I had any articles from anyone for inclusion in the magazine.

I hope to start work on it in the next couple of weeks & any material should be sent to me, editor@pyrosociety.org.uk

If I don't get some material, it's likely to be a very thin issue...
  3. Membership address

    01 November 2011 - 09:59 AM

I have just realised that the membership address on the main website had not been changed (my fault!).

    It should read:

    UKPS Membership
    Angel Lane Cottage
    Angel Lane
    Stour Provost
    Dorset
    SP8 5LU

Please make sure any correspondance is sent to this address. Due to difficulties with the Post Office, it's unlikely that anything sent to the old address will be forwarded to us.
  4. One Show - 7.00pm 4th October

    03 October 2011 - 10:04 PM

The production company tell me that I will be on the One Show (BBC1) 7.00pm 4th October.

If some reason you wanted to see my ugly mug, you could take a look -
  5. Fireworks magazine Issue 60

    24 June 2011 - 08:29 AM

Congratulations to John Bennett on Fireworks Magazine issue 60.

John has been producing this excellent publication since 1982! If you are interested in any aspect of fireworks, you really should get yourself a subscription.

(BTW I've managed to get three articles into this issue - thank you John)

Interesting to see that in the directory of firework companies in issue 60, many are listing UKPS as one of the organisations they belong to.
