In Topic: who is still alive? or active?

22 August 2020 - 07:32 PM

Well I'm Defo still around but building a new lab so mothballed for now, Covid has put the blockers on my UN MAN2 ticket but I am not giving up. Just got to update my epp for more goodies.

Take care out there all of you and see you active again in a month or 3!

I like the fact that we all persist despite the crazy world about us!

In Topic: Proposed EU ban on Potassium Chlorate/Perchlorate for members of the public

31 August 2018 - 08:43 PM

Everybody knows that chlorate/perchlorate cells can be made easily and once the set up is fine-tuned the clandestine manufacture of perchlorates for terrorist purposes will thrive unabated. This is simple inorganic chemistry, nothing more.

That said the issue here is EU legislation and not our own.

I am going to make contact with as many people as possible via the science madness forum as that is where the bulk of the worlds amateur chemists and pyros reside or frequent. On there is the main contingent of people who need to be reached out to. I know there are a few idiots as well but that is people I'm afraid.

Any chemical experimenter of any descripton could be effected by this and despite a period away from activity here to keep my sanity I intend to try and get support from any angle possible. If anyone has contacts anywhere then now is the time to make them. Or back into the shadows we all go.

I think your acheivements are really good. The selection of shells was amazing.
Keep us updated on what you are doing and the general situation for amateur pyros. It's all really good stuff.

"I recently produced what I claimed was an enormous magnetron  built from 8 magnetrons with a large accompanying  power supply .I switched it on whilst it was surrounded by engineers you could hear the psu humming  I approached it with a large fluorescent tube in my hands this illuminated brightly "Cor  its chucking out so much microwave radiation I can feel my eyeballs heating up "  I exclaimed -seconds later the room was empty !! .  It was a great hoax the power supply had a battery operated buzzer in it  and the massive magnetron concealed a small tesla coil with a spike output whose reatively harmless high voltage field illuminated the fluorescent lamp i held      .For some strange reason I have not been invited back there??????" Quote from Icarus's post.

That is so funny it is unreal, I have recently done two microwave stripdowns and a CRT TV stripdown with my eldest son incorporating capacitor safety. A bit off topic i know steve but do you do any more high voltage stuff? I have some pretty serious HV stuff and plan on a large tesla coil in the future. If you like it may be good to have a general science area or something?

In Topic: Problems with Expanding Stars after/during Drying

31 January 2018 - 09:24 PM

Just out of interest is it definitely expanding or is the drying layer contracting?

If expanding It could suggest a gaseous reaction of some kind? Have you or can you test for the presence of any evolved gas? Is another solvent miscible with water suitable for this comp without an adverse effect?

I don't have experience of this, just some thoughts based on simple chemistry.
