AGM in December! :o

That's a bit short notice for all your members to attend isn't is?

It's a month and a half notice... how is that short notice?

Come on guys, more ideas please? I mean, I can come up on the spot with more ideas:

International visits to Valencia or other festivals.
Visits to tube makers and components.
Visits to a BP manufacturing site.
A pyro-based pub quiz….

Use your imagination!

A pyro-based pub quiz sounds cool, with a prize of hemis/tubes or whatever for the winning team.

One thing I thought of is passes for members to walk firing sites a set numbers at a time. Time permiting for the crew of course, we know what it can be like out there! :(

International visits to Valencia or other festivals.

I would definately go, in fact I'm already looking for flights. The problem is I have no contacts in the industry so would probably not be able to do factory tours etc. Anyone else got plans to go, and could this year be turned into an official UKPS event?

I would definitely join a UKPS trip to Malta for example - I tried to get to the festival this year but was defeated by work commitments. I love the idea of 'walking the sites' before the shows and the flights are getting cheaper every year.

Re other ideas, is the remit of the UKPS purely fireworks? There is quite a bit going on in UK government pyrotechnic research at DERA / Qinetic et al that might be of interest to members if visits could be arranged. The 'powers that be' might be encouraged by the prospect of our highly intelligent members exploring future careers...

Also, rocketry wise, we could consider a visit to the European Space Agency or Virgin Galactic... just trying to think outside of the box!

One last thing - as the UKPS grows, we might explore links with other societies abroad. Attending a PGI convention or Desert Blast on behalf of the UKPS might be fun, and there must be similar clubs in the EU.

A trip to LeMaitre would be worth considering. I've been, and it was very interesting to see indoor pyro being manufactured. I also learnt alot about close-prox specific manufacturing, would you believe they actually use flash as lift in certain specialised applications!

I also think a competition for the most artistic use of Cat2/3 material within a budget/timeframe would be fun to do (as part of some sort of meeting). Perhaps a little tricky to organise, but hell, I'm just thinking outloud here!

Using a registered manufacturing facility to break a few British records perhaps. Wasn't the largest shell ever fired in Britain at 24"er? Surely we could do better than that? : ) I'm sure there are many more records which could be broken/created!

The Desert Blast idea sounds great - I'm sure we would do a good job of representing the Brits!

We just held our first convention if you were unaware. Another is planned next year.

Trips to manufacturers is certainly on the cards. I know a couple of people from Le Maitre read these forums, so who knows. :)

Just to add up to what Richard said.
1) We already held the first convension.
2) We have a bio-yearly magazine. First Issue was already sent to members - but to receive it - you have to become one...

The ideas of Internation trips are one the cards. I only wonder - how much people will be willing to pay to go on them. While a group travel will be cheaper and we can use connections to visit some of the most interesting places - will members be willing to pay a few hundred pounds to go on them?

TBA. We are looking provisionally at the back end of January. Probably in the Midlands for ease of access.

Has there been any progress in the idea of a cat 4 training course for members?

I think one of the aims of the society should be to provide such training, and it could possibly become a source of income (charging non-members to provide the service).

I agree this is something we need to look into. Something perhaps we might raise at said AGM :)
