I've been upgrading the forum software, you will note I do this in the early hours to cause no disruption to the majority of users who are usually ASLEEP.

Anyway, job done, all should be ok, any problems let me know.

that would probably be your connection, are you on a 56k modem or broadband? Or something else?

it sometimes brings up some wiered coding of some sort when atempting to access a number of topics.

Will post exactly what happens should it happen again.

I know what you mean, but it's certainly a user-end occurence, not server-end. It often happens on a dodgy connection.

I also regularly have connection problems and database errors but only with this site.... Mysql is running on the server as are the querys. So the user sends the command, the server does everything it has to and then it is returning errors because something has went wrong. The problem with not being able to enter the site is obviously connection but since everyone has the problem you can assume it must be the connection to the server. Personally I would dump your host :)

www.findmyhosting.com

I think the main problem is that your host is not capable of handling the amount of traffic your site recieves. I have got errors about too many simultaneous connections to the database which pretty much sums it up.

Actually I have an excellent host, and you will notice the forums may go offline infrequently, late at night. This is due to maintenence, which is actually quite normal.

There are no problems with the sever being overloaded. The connection problem occured as a result of a MySQL misconfig.

PyroKid's problem sounds like his browser dumping raw XML rather than parsing it.

I couldn't reach the site most of yesterday, but it came back in the evening. Same deal today, it just came back. Was the site down for maintenance? The traceroute was:

Hi, I?ve been having a problem accessing this forum for a few weeks now. The symptoms are:

- Very slow page loading (up to 10 seconds), even though I?m on BTopenworld 2MB Broadband.

- Pages are very slow to scroll. They appear to keep trying to refresh, accompanied by a clicking noise.

- While this is happening, I get unusual messages in the status bar, such as ?Opening page res://C:\windows\system32\shddoclc.dll/dnserror.htm?? or hyperlinks ending in ?/dnserror.htm??

I currently access dozens of other sites without similar problems, including the UK Rocketry main and photo album sites and the UK Firework Review Forum, which uses the same make of software as this forum.

I don?t think there are any viruses/spyware on my system, as I have McAfee and Counterspy constantly monitoring and run Adaware and Spybot weekly.

I have searched around this forum and the web, but have been unable to find details on the exact problem. I?ve not asked until now, because I hoped the problem would eventually disappear.

I?d be grateful for any advice on resolving this problem, as I?d like to once again access this excellent board at normal speed :D

Strange. Not had any problems on my NTL 2Meg account, or any problems accessing it from the University. It seems the problem is at your end. Anyone else had issues of late?

That is strange, i have never had a problem with the forum. Try using a different browser like Mozzilla Firefox, its free to download. I have had problems with IE in the past and now i use Firefox i never get problems. Download it HERE

Hi Richard & Karl

I'm pretty certain the problem is my end, otherwise you would have had many others with the same problem. It's just strange that I am only getting the problem on this site out of the dozens I visit. Maybe some PC expert will come up with an idea of what the problem is. In the meantime, I might give Firefox a try on my backup PC. Thanks :D
