Thanks for the info on the holly charcoal, might be good for polverone? I've had KNO3 (for curing sheep skins!), Chloramine T, Acetone, + various other stuff, + various lab equipment. Just rang up and put it on a CC, as long as you're a professional user they seem happy to deal with you.

cool ok, i mite try them out. i will make some BP with the holly charcoal tomorow maybe and test it out on a rocket and a firecracker and see how it goes. it seems to burn (willow charcoal on its own) for quite a long time on its own, longer than willow charcoal. il make some pulverone aswel and report back with the results. may not be for a while as i have summer exmas all this week.

What does Willow look like, is its bark really rough and with lots of like lines that bump along the tree like veins (hard to explain that but i think that makes sense lol) or is it smooth or what? o.O??

Take a walk along a river look for something draping over a bit with long thin leaves with a strong central vein. Bark is smooth and green on young stems and goes rough and crinkly on old trunks. You want poles about 2-3 cm diameter. Old wood has become heartwood which is denser and chemically different as the tree lais down chemical preservatives in the wood. There are also four different specied common to the UK. Can't tell you which is best, but one is taller and less droopy.

Lots are pollarded with an old stumpy trunk with a big hedgehog on top.

Well you did ask!

Just ask nicely and I'm sure it won't mind.

Take something to cut it with though - ripped branches let in disease.

Gor's right - ask the tree spirits first (Dryads) - they won't mind.

I'm not kidding - it must be the Celt in me :)
