Sprengman - tigertail stars are really not hard to ignite, so they don?t need
a primer at all... as long as the bursting charge is not too fast.


alany - i?ve used a simple zinc spreader composition for priming:

and this is the golden wave composition from Shimizu:

Ah, that explains the colour, they looked just like red gum fuelled colour stars. I generally dampen mine with spray starch, especially when I use the same composition for falls lances. I think Lancaster or Weingart mentions using red gum + alcohol to bind similar torch compositions and give a distributed fuel that helps it burn better, but I was concerned it would not dry properly.

Very very nice shell!!! I have a question though,
Where are the pistil stars placed inside the shell? As a layer of stars over the outer layer, inside the paper just over the outer star layer, or are they placed in the burst charge?

For just a few days I started building a 200mm ( 8" ) sperical Shell. The effect should be:

Tigertail to bright red with coloured pistil


The magnesium fueled red stars are completly rolled. Now I?m growing up the tigertail mix on them. ( Of course with a prime between them )
The hemispheres are pressed out of 3 layers 1mm cardboard.

I only have to build a motar with glasfiber/epoxyresin and mount the shell.

This is a picture with they five Layer pasted 8" in relation to two 3" hemisspheres. Huge.

The Hemisspheres with the Stars inside.

The Pistil is made like them in Shimizu?s book.

Pistil mounted in one hemissphere and surrounded from the outer layer stars.

One half filled up with burstingcharge.

This should be enough for the Moment..

Can anyone else not view the video? Just installed WMP 10 and it still says I cannot view it because it WMP does not support the codec used to compress the file. Any help would be appreciated as it seems like that was a nice shell .

Very nice shell skipjack .
Maybe it could use a little bit more lift and delay so it will explode higher.
Did u use a wistlemix booster?I can't see any flash and that break was insane.

As for mediaplayer 10... it sucks, it realy eats resources and has problems with many mediafiles.
This:mediaplayer classic is a much better alternative.

the burst was BP on ricecrispies 5:1, using 5g Al-flash as a booster.
i tried whistlemix once. maybe i did something wrong, but the Al-flash works better for me.

sorry 'bout the viewing-difficulties. actually i chose the wmv-format, because i thought it would create no troubles at all...
