Great shells once again sasman! the silver to red was fantastic! you didn't say what size that was though?? I assume it wasn't a 6" as you went on to refer to the 6" red. Must have been the dram making you forgetful

How much lift? and burst did you use?

When are we gonna see a big one like that with some fantastic glitter or firefly?

A 5" shell filled 1/1 with 10mm charcoal streamers 10mm/al streamers 15mm.
Put alot of efford in pasting it this time, wanted it to be the best-looking shell
I´ve ever done. Thats because it´s a "present" for a friend :) Used the 3-strip
pasting method with gummed paper, 16 layers.

The lift "bag" look´s oversized because I use riced black powder which is not
as dense as pressed and corned!

Err, isn't the leader fuse a bit short? Dont tell me you have to put your hand down the mortar to light it? I'm sure I must have missed something there as the creator of such a lovely looking shell, must know something that I dont! Or do you light it and dop it in? :o joke!

Could you please describe the 3 strip pasting method?

maxman The fuse looks shorter than it is... Gives a good 20sec from lighting to lift... I´ll attach an e-match to it anyway!
On earlier shells I used to let the shell drop down the mortar to about half of the mortars lenght (holding it with the cord attached to it),
the fuse still sticking out the tube, kneeing next to the mortar, keeping face, head and so on away from the tube, lighting the
fuse and letting the shell drop into the mortar.

I think there´s no problem with that method, the tube is burried about 40cm deep in the ground, facing away from the lighter. I mean, it´s the same as
holding a portfire to a matchleader which is taped to a mortar in a shell rack. (the method hand-firers use).

The 3-strip-method is fully covered on passfire. If you got no account there, maybe I can describe it to you here or per PM!

I love that method even if other methods are faster. Gives the best-looking results I think!

marbles ... :)

The only problem i can see with this light and drop method is if the shell get stuck half way down giving very poor lifting ability of the lift charge, though if you vacate the area its not to much of a prob i guess but it would be a disappointing result.

I also think that the 3 strip pasting method give some of the best results, it leave the shell nice and uniform.

I'm sure a longer piece of QM is not unreasonable to allow the shell to be seated in the base of the mortar prior to ignition?

This has to be one of those saving pence and endangering your life moments guys?

You´re perfectly right there! I´ll do that and I´m going to use a long piece of quickmatch next time, with a
long piece of visco added! Thanks for your replies!

Of course I´ll post the video here as well.
