personaly I dislike the idea of using infared light to controll sutch a thing. I have built one channel igniters that used RF, they tend to me a lot more complicated and can still be prone to not working in a reliable manner. In the case of fireworks sometimes going "wireless" is not the best way to go.
Personaly I would love to find one of the old "blast engines" that you see all the time in cartoons. In the past I found one but it was too expensive. I had thought about a digital countdown timer but deemed that unsafe for the simple reason that you are not in direct contact with the igniter to do an emergancy abort if needed.

Hi Guys,
you need to be able to make a good e-match that fire using 1.5 volts battery,
before deciding to make a firing system. otherwise you will making too big of a system.
For 1 cue system, all you need is just a push button switch, cable and a battery.
If you need info, send me an email.

I've made one out of a switch with a red safety cap. I mounted it on top of a sawn-off bike handle, and made an index finger hold-to-arm-switch, and a ring to protect that switch from impacts.

it looks kind of... suicidal?

anyway, I wired it to a 12v battery unit (made from 1.2v rechargeable batteries), which is enough to ignite a chemical universal bridgeless igniter.

I'm confused, how did the reusable electrical fuse-igniter work?

Got an idea; using a car part which generates 30KV shocks from a 12V input, and an IR remote system (available at a gadget shop near you), one could make a remote-controlled reliable ignition system. There is just one problem with it; REMEMBER TO INSULATE EVERYTHING, even the wires going into the igniter! 30.000 volts can jump!

If there are any spelling errors I blame the gmail system, used to check the spelling.
If you make it bulletproof they'll just make a bigger bullet.
If you make it waterproof they'll just make a deeper ocean.
If you make it foolproof... They'll just find 'emselves a redneck!
