I can second the barium nitrate safety. I got barium poisoning a few months ago. I didn't come to the conclusion of barium poisoning until after I was better. It truely is a horrible experience. I had been sick for a few days, and I thought it was just getting worse. After reading about symptoms and experiences, the truth was revealed. I am assuming due to the lack of symptom #5 (Death), it was a rather mild case.

On this happy note, happy holidays everyone.

Merry and safe Christmas all. Unfortunately I will miss New Years Eve, being up at work :(

Mumbles, I am glad that you recovered from your Ba exposure. How do suppose you managed to ingest it ? I've been reading accounts of 'fume fever' from aluminum dust inhalation on rec.pyrotechnics, that sounds rather unpleasant also.

Sorry to hear that Mumbles, must have been awful. I hardly ever use it and when i do we always wear lab coats, gloves and respirator. Also all surfaces are cleaned and strictly no food or drink is in the lab!!! Its horrid stuff and not a nice experience i imagine.

Merry Christmass HO! HO! HO!

Take care guys and girls!!

Well, I sell chemicals on the side here in the US, and one the chemicals I stock is barium nitrate. I was weighing some out, gloves, old clothes, dust mask, the whole works. I had everything weighed, bagged, and powdered. I took off my gloves and dust mask and such as I was boxing everything and printing the labels. Perhaps some dust got kicked up from my clothes, or maybe there was a bit on the outside of the bag that was kicked up, or some on the floor. It's pretty hard to tell. It is definatly not a pleasant experience. I had a migrane and severe stomach irritation. In retrospect, I probably should have gone to the hospital.

I got an early christmas present in the mail today. It starts "Dear Mumbles, we are delighted to inform you that we have been able to grant your room change request." My college roomate is rather disrespectful to me and my belongings, and overall a complete jackass. I think I will do a little dance.
