I've just been asked by a (female) friend in the pub if I can make one of these:

http://www.chocolate...info.asp?ID=216

Now after I'd told her it looked a bit dangerous to try and make an indoor firework with edible stuff wrapped around it due to thedanger of shrapnel injury from the contents (sugar coated almonds - ouch!) and the toxicity of teh BP etc, I started to wonder..

Has anyone seen these before and if so how do they work?

From her original description I'd imagined a low powered mortar effect like the confetti type indoor fireworks you can get however from the looks of this thing it's not like that after all.

(I reckon if we can discuss onion skin as a charcoal substitute then this is a fair topic for discussion, not sure if I've put it in the right place though)

Any ideas how it works ?

Could it possibly be something to do with expanding gasses causing it to break up? maybe the fuse leads to a small kind of balloon of hydrogen causing it to blow and break the chocolate up?

Weird. If it's like the other table b***s that can be bought, it might to be confetti or edible treats launched with a small charge of guncotton. Strange that it's top fused - I'm intrigued, but not enough to splash out ?75 on one! What a rip off!

Explodalicious!

Strange thing indeed. Maybe someone should ask what the charge is composed of due to safety concerns with toxicity??

I've an idea brewing. Choco shells with peanut / sweets centre (stars), liquorice lace for fuse and maybe 'poprocks' as the bursting charge (those things that crackle in your mouth).

I have seen one on BBC2's Room101 programme which victoria beckham set off (specially made) and it blew the chocolate apart!!! Btw she hates people setting off fireworks and she hates private fireworks!
