Has anyone got pictures of the shells that were once legal in the UK? I've never been able to find a picture of them other than in a brochure.

Funny you should ask - I've just been checking out this website to try and find your bangers. There's at least one newsagent-bought shell on there too. Happy browsing : )

That standard bonfire poster was up every year in the post office window at the end of our street,all the standard fireworks were stored in a glass case,I went in there and bought a 10p mix just to look at them ,the post office insurance costs have put an end to that
Even in my childhood the largest box was only around ?7.00 'I'm now 30 ish ,my dad would secretly buy them and just before we went to the bonfire party and threw them in with everyone elses he let me set off a few
