Hi guys,

I wonder if someone can help. I'm looking for potassium carbonate but I couldn't find it at agriculture places in my country. Where can I find it ?
Is there any other product than fertilizers that contain a pure potassium carbonate or has a high purity of it ?

Thanks

it's available for baking, similar to bicarbonate of soda.

it's also used in soapmaking.

it's probably easier to make it from KOH however.

EDIT: why do you want it? if you need it for making perc or something, KCl is just as good and easier to get.

Thanks Erwin. But we have no pottery manufacturers or suppliers here in my country. Unfortunatily, I live in a consumer country. So, It's rarely to find needed chemicals. Also, For me, I can't make colored starts because I can't find the needed chemicals for that. :(

Thanks again.

Does it have to be potassium carbonate?
Otherwise sodium carbonate (washing soda) is much easier to obtain from hardware stores or supermarkets.

I'm surprised to read that you can't get simple chemicals, which country are you in?

i think washing soda is NaOH, a rather corrosive chemical,
sodium carbonate is BAKING soda.

Washing soda is Sodium Carbonate. Sodium Hydroxide would eat your clothes, literaly, there would be nothing left except a mush. Baking Soda is Sodium Bicarbonate

Oh my God !!!! :o
Fishy1, you made me search alot at baking shelves looking for it.
I tried to find Potassium carbonate but I only found Sodium Bicarbonate.
I was knowing that baking is Sodium Bicarbonate but I doubt myself and say "maybe there is another product that contained potassium carbonate" .. Man , Never make cakes for your family  I appreciate your help even it was wrong but you tried to help

EnigmaticBiker , actually, I live in United Arab Emirates.
The most simple chimecals are not avaliable. I don't know if it allowed to ordered from outside my country or not . I may face problems.

You know guys, it is not allowed to even get commertial small fireworks here.
Also, We have no pottery chemicals too. :(
Fortunatily, I could get KNO3 as a fertilizer. So, I could make my own fireworks :)

Thank you guys for you help.

I think that if you locate some ceramic / pottery artisans, they have access to chemicals you can use for coloring pyrotechnics compositions. I can't believe they have *none* there. Dhubai is pretty cosmopolitan city.
