Funny thing in the search facility - it doesn't seem to allow words of less than 4 characters - how does one search for something like "red star" or "whistle mix" please??
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....

Trev, this is due to MySQL full-text search indexes. The default minimum word length is 4 chars. You can still wrap words together to form a string, like "red star", which gives results just fine.

in the invision power board settings you can change the minimum search string. I think it is in the general settings list somewhere...

I had problems with searches on my forum and there is a setting somewhere where you can reduce it to three or two characters...

That would mean turning off MySQL full-text searching. Leaving it on makes for a better search engine.

Minimum search word length
Allowing shorter search words can return more results, such as 'if', 'at', etc. Note, this will not have any effect if you are full text search.

By default, the minimum length word indexed by MySQL full-text is 4 characters. No doubt this can be changed by my host, but I don't see a need for this. You can easily combine words to make a search phrase by wrapping them in double quotation marks. For example: "red star".
