I'm beginning with pyrotechnics, but i dont want to do any big things right now, mainly sparklers, smoke and maybe a fountain, where should i start, i know like what chemicals do what, but im not quite sure how to construct the actual device.

I would go with a fountain. This will require you to get potassium nitrate, sulfur and air float charcoal (a project by itself is to make air float charcoal).

Go to the topic "set pieces" to see some notes about construction.

If you are serious about this as a hobby - the forum expect you to learn first about safety (this is a dangerous hobby!) and to understand compositions before mixing them. Also, use ONLY paper for set pieces container - otherwise you are endangering other people?s life.

Note that it is illegal in the uk to put devices into practical use and you can experiment with only small amounts of pyrotechnic compositions.

Good Luck and enjoy your hobby.

Believe me they don't seem to care to much for spelling. These guys are gonna mess you all up. I don't even ask anymore when the talk about beefy extract and kips. The b*st*rds are laughing at you right now. They seem to know what there talking about when they get around to talking pyro. Kinda.:P

You mentioned that you were from the states. Which one?

At the risk of self-promotion, I now have a page on my website that describes blow by blow how to make a fountain.

It's at www.thegreenman.me.uk and press the fountain button - hope it's helpful...

Anyway....welcome aboard.

There is good solid information on your site. I recently made a fountain just like the one that is featured and it worked great. My next project is to build a ball mill. After reading through this forum and other places it seems to be more important then I thought.

Can anyone help me out with rockets? I need some tools.
