Just a sidenote:
if you use Opera or Firefox instead of IE you will find the most (99%) of the spyware can't harm you. :)

Well, back atcha! I for one appreciate the effort being made by the mods and administration to rid the site of this mess.

I'm sure this sentiment is shared by the majority of the membership. So, keep up the good work.

I have a simple question: Isn´t it possible to apply a "filter" to the forum?!

I mean, all the spammers/spambots use the big yellow smiley as their thread-icon. Just apply a script which autodeletes posts which use this smiley. I mean, it´s no problem to inform everyone here not to use it.
This would be easy and makes sense in my opinion...

The forum has just been upgraded. The software includes so-called 'Captcha' technology, or 'Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart' to give its full name. It is hoped that this will remedy the large problems we have been having with spam recently. Time will tell. As always, please help us by reporting spam immeadiately so that we can deal with it.

Fingers firmly crossed this time.

Great work, I guess we all hope the new upgrade will get us rid of all the damn spam.
As I see, some other changes have been included in this upgrade.
Hope to explore all of them soon :)

maybe this could be of some interest: http://sam.zoy.org/pwntcha/

Also since the update theres been some troubles (in firefox) about if a post is new or not. I keep reading the new posts, although when I come back a few minutes later the posts appears as if they were new.

Yeah, I guess thats the reason I posted the link above your post. I think a member-joining-stop will be the only sollution to this spam problem
until there´s a way to completely sort it out.

I will now start vetting user accounts manually. It is trivial to spot the bots. A minor inconvenience to myself, but it is the only certain way to stop spam here in the short-term.

I know that I'm most likely not respected, but I am regular and would be more than happy to help out if you would like me to!

Regards,

Mike

Hi all,I was just reading through the 'i'm a new member' topic (dont ask me why  ) and one post said something about taking a test to join ukrocketry?,this was back in 2004.

This wouldn't be a bad idea if you ask me,as it will stop this stupid amount of spam coming in.This could be part of the validation process, multiple choice questions and if they score less than 80% lets say, they dont get in

Obviously there's legit enthusiasts wanting to join and most of them will have no problem with a test, but for the few who know little or nothing and dont pass, this should encourage them to go and read the basics and try again, and i reckon that this should stop or at least cut down on the number of new 'how do ya make black powder' topics, which will make the mods life's easier :P

I'll post this here.

If anyone gets an email from paypal with subject..PayPal Center Notification: ENTER YOU NAME HERE....delete it.its a load of BS

here's the email

"Dear DEAN GRAHAM,

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system.
We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information about your business to allow us to provide uninterrupted service.

We would like to return your account to regular standing as soon as possible.

To continue using PayPal's service without interruption, you will need to answer a few questions about your account and you may be asked to complete a short series of steps on the PayPal website. The purpose of this is to verify your identity and business information, as applicable.

(Your case ID for this reason is PP-628-893-767-127.)

Please visit the Resolution Center and complete the "Steps to Provide More Information." (the resolution center is click-through)

Completing all the checklist items will automatically restore your account access.

We appreciate your business and apologise for any inconvenience."

When you click resoltion center it comes up with THIS.Now due to what i buy using paypal i was a little worried and entered my password and came back with incorrect password.I then looked at the url..oh dear,so logged on as normal and changed my password.

I feel abit stupid,i'm quite good at spotting a scam but ,with what i use the account for and the fact that my email addy was there it looks ok at first glance,i just entered my password.Anyone had one of these??

P.S.If you click anything on the page nothing happens

feeling abit stupid
