I just found an interesting site on an explorer website. I do not know if this is a Firework factory or not but it looks very much like one and in excellent condition to say the least with allot of machinery left behind. This looks to me like the Brocks factory at Sanquhar in Scotland. The site is still operational but they don't make fireworks any more.

I think you are right about it being the Brocks plant but looking at the condition it would seem that it is not being used anymore. Some of them buildings are weather damaged though in excellent condition for a derelict site.

Believe it or not it IS still in use, albeit in a much smaller scale than in its glory days. They don't make fireworks there anymore of course. What a shame to see a place go downhill like that. I had a look around (with the Managers permission) a few years ago and took some photographs. I will try and get them all together and post them.

That would be nice if you could upload them pictures spectrum . So the pictures taken on the 28dayslater forum i assume are the unused parts of the site being in such weather damaged conditions? they look very mothballed . I guess the company who owns it now must use the storage magazines would I be right in saying this? I look forward to seeing your pictures .

OK then.

there was i just discovered a firwork factory in carvely / appley bridge near leeds.

It was in the woods Carvely woods or appley bridge woods not entirely sure what they are called) 5 minutes walk from my last work so I went to have a look and found plenty of ruins but nothing that jumped out as a factory or manufacturing site.

I know there was also a camp during the war there so maybe the site was flattened for that but if anyone knows anything let us all know.

I dont know its name but do know that in 1957 there was an explosion killing the watchman and maybe two others but dont know if this was the end of the production on the site.

I am pretty certain that the site you are referring to is the former Guys Fireworks, they were at Calverley(?) I thought outside Leeds.

The company was founded but I am not sure if it ever traded, I thought it didn't get off the ground. There may have been a previous company / factory by the same name but again, I am not sure.

My understanding is that Malcolm Armstrong who set up Theatrical Pyrotechnics was supposedly recruited to run the place. I did know why it never got going but can't remember, I have seen pictures of selection boxes - presumably prototype artwork and I believe there have been articles on the place in Fireworks magazine.
