I have watched some chinese videos on shell making. They make the hemis in a press, let me explain the best I can. I'am using an example of a 3 inch shell. On the movie they take a stack of paper, not sure how thick. Cover a hole that is bigger than 3 inches and press a steel ball that is cut in half and press the paper into the hemi. Before the hemi comes out they trim the edges so they are flat. Also this is very effective when done right. I have done this with a golf ball that is cut in half. The mould I used was plaster of paris with a bigger hole in it. The bigger the hole the thicker the hemi. The smaller hole the thinner hemi. As for the paper I used paper that is not glued together and paper that has been glued. The best way to make the paper is to use a white glue and cut the right size of paper and glue each paper together. Needs to be done fast because the glue needs to be wet when pressed. When you glue the paper make the paper turn so when you press it it will look like a star and that way you get a nice hemi that should be even all the way around. I will see if I can get some pics of it so you can get an idea of it.

Hope this helps.

If you search Firecracker Manufacture China on the forums there will be a post made by maxman, click on the video link. But when I just clicked on it says we're sorry, but this video may not be available. But iam sure there are other vids out there. Its strange because I was watching it 2 days ago.

That video was pirated. The original is available through Skylighter and was filmed by John Werner, who wasn't particularly happy to see his work pirated and on Google video!

There are numerous threads on this forum that cover this topic in detail.

No I wasn't talking about you Tony, another forum member who uses a picture off my company's website - I'm not upset about it (they probably didn't know where it came from), but it's worrying about how stuff get's copied around on the web. BTW, looks like a nice gun you have there :P

Swiss Tony, try AFN! I payed 9$ for shipping to Norway (2 DVDs).

I've tried the Passfire vakuum method and it rocks! A simple device will make you a nice hemi within 15 seconds :)
You can even make several at a time and it's pretty enjoying to do.

Passfire is a great site, well worth the admission fee

Do your hemis change size over time?

I know, it's great!
I haven't noticed any change since they became dry, but they really crimped while drying! I'm still experimenting with this method, but so far, so good.
Have made something like 20 3" hemis with my mold.

Have pics btw, but i will not explain how it works though (copyright, Passfire):
