Heard of using polyester resin and sharp sand for press pistons!

Has anyone any guidance to the ratio of sand to resin please?

I'd be tempted to use something a little smoother than sand, check out "Mouldmaking and Casting Supplies" shop on aBay. For ultimate strength I would go for finely chopped glass fibre as in glass reinforced nylon, but I guess you might need to get that from a plastics supplier.
Trying to do something very beautiful but very dangerous very safely....
